One Hell Of A Story.
My name's Brett, I'm the founder of Rebel, and I've been working in digital marketing, branding, and ecommerce for over 13 years. It's nice to meet you.
Throughout that time, I helped brands and businesses grow and unlock their full potential while bringing in a fresh perspective. I'm probably best known in the industry for my time at Yogibo, the ecommerce & brick/mortar lifestyle furniture brand, where together with an amazing team we spent a decade growing a small basement idea into a global brand. It was truly the ride of a lifetime, and I'd do it all over again in a second.
Around 3:00am on September 8th 2023, I sat in an emergency room with my wife and was diagnosed with cancer. You don't need the details. They're not fun. I spent ten months going through some pretty serious treatment protocols. The nonstop hospital trips, the constant bloodwork, having no energy. During this time, I kept working, and I'm not super proud of that. By the time I was done with treatment, I was completely burned out. But there was an epiphany.
I'm incredibly blessed to say that my scans came back clear not long after treatment. In the community, this is called your rebirth day. It's a fresh start. It's a second chance. You get to live for the people that didn't. Everything I went through fundamentally changed my outlook on life and gave me enormous perspective. I decided to focus on my happiness, and help others find theirs. It didn't even feel like an option. My gut kept telling me it was time, and I knew I needed to start Rebel so I could work with some amazing folks and help them chase their dreams. Rebel is my comeback story, and it's extremely personal to me.
Over the past decade-plus, I've seen some really inefficient ways of working. I've seen weeks where there were 30+ hours of meetings, leaving little time to actually do work. I've seen people throwing way too much money at problems to try and fix them. Most importantly, I've worked with a lot of folks that I personally feel didn't have the best interest of the company or their employees. With all I learned, I want to change all those things. There’s no room or time for egos, backstabbing, and narcissism. I want you to consider Rebel part of your team. We are here to alleviate, we're here to vent to, and we're here to listen. Then, we're here to problem solve and make it happen together.
I'm a born-and-raised New Englander, and a devoted Boston sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots (sorry). If you follow football, you certainly know about Super Bowl 51, where the Patriots were losing to the Falcons 28-3 at halftime. There's a well-known video of Julian Edelman telling Tom Brady, "It's gonna be a hell of a story." You likely know how that game turned out. I kept recalling that quote during my treatment to stay strong, and it’s that quote I live by. (Thanks, Jules)
I thrive on being the underdog, and it's that mentality I want to bring to you regardless of size. It’s about giving everything we got as a team. Maybe you need a new perspective and we can write your comeback, or maybe you're starting out fresh and just need some guidance.
Whatever the case, it's gonna be one hell of a story.
With love,
Brett Cailler
